What takes place: From the simple stone putts to the show-stopping caber toss, the athletic
field catches everyone's eye. Over the weekend you will see over 50
athletes in eight classes using original implements to compete in eight events.
The competitors will be working for medals only. Be sure to see our
program for more details
The Classes - We have a total of eight classes, half of which will
appear each day:
- Men's Amateur - As, Bs & Cs
- Men's Masters - 40-49, 50-59, 60+
- Women's As & Bs
The events
- Stones - throws closely resemble the shot put; weights are 12 and 16# for women
and 16 and 22# for men. The
shot put resembles the stone putt, which preceded the use of
fabricated cannon shot by millennia.
- Hammers - a cannonball on a stick, turned 'round the shoulders and
released behind you; weights are 12 and 16# for women, 16 and 22 # for men.
- Weights for distance - a hunk of metal on a chain, thrown after spinning; weights
are 14 and 28# for women, 28, 42 and 56# for men.
- Weight over the bar - stand still and throw a heavy weight up above your
head as high as you
can; weights are 28 for women, 42 and 56# for men.
- Caber toss - put a big pole with the heavy end in the air, pick it
up turn it end for end; weights and lengths vary, but range from 12ft, 50#
to 20ft, 180#.
